Jim Carey’s character is in a rush and running towards another character. He is acting smiley and kind of goofy. In an animated stumble, something gets stuck to the bottom of his shoe. What would a responsible person do in this situation? Surely they would inspect and try to find a bin? Actually, you can see more trash on the ground in the background. So it really just shows that, oh, if there is trash already on the ground, then it’s okay to add to it, right?
By framing the gag in an environment already dotted with background rubbish, the film subtly reinforces a classic psychological trap, the idea that if an area is already dirty, adding one more item doesn’t count as an offence. By making the offender a charismatic, goofy protagonist, the film normalises the casual toss, turning absent-minded environmental negligence into harmless comedic background noise.
