Do you track only English-language films, or is your archive global?
Our archive is open to the world. We welcome sightings from every country and language because littering touches us all.
About the Project What’s the most common type of litter shown on screen?
Cigarette butts, takeaway coffee cups, and fast-food wrappers appear most often, but really, almost anything can be left behind.
Impact & Awareness Can I submit an example I spotted in a film?
Yes, please do. We welcome submissions from anyone. Just visit our Submit a Scene page and share the title, when it happened, and a short note about what was left behind.
Submitting a Scene Are there any positive examples of films showing proper disposal or environmental care?
Yes, and we are always glad to see a character choose to use a bin or take a moment to clean up. If you notice a positive example, we would love to hear about it and share it with others.
Impact & Awareness How do you decide what counts as littering in a movie or TV show?
We pay attention to moments when a character chooses to leave rubbish behind, with no plan to return for it or dispose of it properly. Our focus is on the ordinary things left behind, not accidents or the chaos of destruction.
About the Project Does on-screen littering really influence real-world behaviour?
Studies in media suggest that seeing certain behaviours on screen, again and again, can quietly shape how we see the world and how we act. We hope that by noticing these moments, we can all become a little more aware and make choices that matter.
Impact & Awareness What if I don’t know the precise timestamp?
Precise timecodes are helpful, but if you only remember roughly when something happened, that is fine too. Maybe you recall it was about 45 minutes in, or perhaps it was during the opening chase scene before the title appeared. Just note what you remember. Someone from our team will find the exact moment before sharing it.
Submitting a Scene Which formats and types of screen media do you accept?
We welcome all kinds of narrative screen stories, from feature films and television series to streaming originals and short films. We also accept animated features and live-action adaptations. We do not accept unscripted reality TV, vlogs, music videos, or video games, as we focus on written and performed stories.
